What you will be doing:

Flow-Rite’s Tool Room Manager will be a Help First individual who leads a dynamic team in the Tool Room and Thinking Beyond Tomorrow to ensure the coordination of new mold builds and maintenance meet customer expectations to produce quality, functional parts. 

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the creation and implementation of best practice tool room vision, strategy, policies, processes, and procedures to aid and improve operational performance.  
  • Provide specialist technical advice and support on all aspects of mold design, manufacturing and estimating  
  • Support production and engineering with tooling/technical problems  
  • Direct and plan activities of the tool room facilities and toolmakers, ensuring the tool room is a safe environment in line with health, safety, and environmental requirements  
  • Maximize the use of all resources, including IT and database maintenance for tracking all tools, implementing a planned schedule of maintenance and repair activity to ensure a computerized log is kept on faults and service history of molds  
  • Implement budget for investment of new equipment and drive these investments  
  • Implement storage of tools to facilitate highest standards within the department for good housekeeping, health, safety and environmental 
  • Ensure all stock items, mold inserts and spares are organized  
  • Oversee all work through the tool room efficiently and cost effectively and ensure that all target dates for tooling are met  
  • Provide quotations for new tooling, modifications, and repairs  
  • CAD and CNC programming may be required  
  • Develop, implement, and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) for each area of responsibility  
  • Help prepare the annual Tool Room budget and forecasts and all Capital Expenditure proposals. Manage the budget from identification to completion of projects  
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal performance  
  • Work as part of the Management team to share ideas and improve operation, recommending, supporting, and implementing continuous improvement activities and process and procedure improvements to optimize results and improve quality of delivery, in line with quality standards requirements delivery in line with Company and Customer requirements  
  • Identify and deploy the technical skill sets, resource levels and systems to deliver projects, including the engagement of external resources as required 

The stuff you know:

  • Minimum of 7 years of extensive plant/tool room level and significant proven supervisory experience. 
  • Technical understanding of mold design and tool room equipment 
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications 
  • Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems experience a plus. 
  • Attend various meetings and action/communicate instructions  
  • Remain current on any changes that may affect the tool room products, materials and advise others of any impact. 
  • Capable to accurately assess key business metrics (tool room related) and situations. 
  • Undertake continuous training and development  
  • Perform root cause analysis and resolve problems  
  • Effective communications skills utilizing a variety of methodologies. 
  • Excellent writing and administrative skills, including Microsoft Office applications. 
  • Demonstrated proficiency in time and project management.
