FAQ

  • When is the best time to fill my batteries?
ANSWER: Water After Charge, For fast charge applications fill after equalize.
- Electrolyte levels drop during discharge and rise during charge. In addition, charging generates heat, fluid expansion and explosive gases. Watering a battery before charge (or with a low charge level) can lead to boil over resulting in potential damage of the watering system, battery and vehicle.
NOTE:  Water must always be added after fully charging the battery. Prior to charging, there must be sufficient water to cover the plates. If the battery has been discharged (partially or fully), the water level should still be above the plates. 
 
  • How often should I fill my batteries?
ANSWER: - Watering intervals are dependent on the local climate, charging methods, application, and age of batteries. Flow-Rite recommends that new batteries be checked once a month and older batteries be checked weekly until you get a feel for your water consumption rate.
- Typically for a heavy use application, we recommend watering a maximum of once per week, and for light use applications once per month. Generally it is best to water on Wednesdays for most applications. Specifically you should not water a battery that has been sitting for an extended period of time with no activity (non use or not on charge) such as a battery that has sat over the weekend. It is best to water a warm battery that has just been fully charged.
 
  • How do I know when my battery needs water?

ANSWER:  Most users water their batteries on a dedicated schedule to ensure that all batteries get watered.  If you prefer to opportunity water, we recommend using our Level Lite indicator to let you know when each individual battery requires water. 

  • How long does it take to install a Millennium SPW kit?
ANSWER: typical installation will take an inexperienced person on average 1 minute per cell.

  • What are the operating specifications for the Millennium valve 

ANSWER: 3 to 35 PSI (measured in a static no flow state) while maintaining a minimum of 2 gpm (gallons per minute) flow rate measured through the purger.

  • Can I use the Millennium system in a cold storage/freezer application?
ANSWER: Yes, The Millennium valve will reopen just seconds after filling is complete allowing the majority of water in the tubing to drain into the battery. Any remaining water that is left in the tubing or valves can freeze without harming any components; however, the system will not be operable until the water inside is allowed to thaw.
 
 
  • Does your system work in fast charge applications?
ANSWER:Yes, Flow-Rite Controls the premier supplier of watering systems to the fast charge industry. The Millennium Valve is the only valve to offer both an internal and external flame arrestor making it the safest valve in the industry. This safety feature is found in most vent caps that are installed on fast charge batteries.
  • Can I use my Millennium SPW system with an automatic water supply such as a Water Genius?

ANSWER: No, Due to the inaccuracy low level logic of these devices they will water the battery every time it charges the battery (and sometimes multiple times throughout the charge cycle) they will eventually overfill the battery.

  • How does the Millennium valve work?

ANSWER:  Millennium Plus+ valve operation features a breakthrough patented technology that sets a new standard for reliability and versatility with single point watering. Without levers, hinges, or pivot action, Millennium Plus+ valves can operate independently of refill water supply pressure to accurately control cell electrolyte levels.  Through Fluidic Displacer Valve Technology, it uses a dual, balanced valve design that allows the displacement force to act directly through the center of the valve without any mechanical leverage. The Millennium valve is very sensitive to the displacement force, allowing a very small displacer to be used.  At the same time it is very insensitive to variations in the water supply pressure used, making it a true multi-pressure valve. Fluidic Displacer Technology allows the Millennium Plus+ valve to maintain the low profile and easy tube routing features found in Flow-Rite’s previous Powerstream and Snap-Fill systems.

  • What is a flame arrested valve and when/why would I need one?

ANSWER: Our standard Millennium flame arrested valve includes both an internal and external flame arrestor. The external flame arrestor will protect against an outside spark, flame or the like from entering the cell through the de-gas chamber and causing an explosion. In the event of an internal short or explosion from within the cell the patent pending internal flame arrestor will prevent the explosion from propagating to neighboring cells via the watering system.

  • Why don’t flame arrested valves have a flip top access hole?

ANSWER: Flow-Rite Controls does not offer both the flip-top and external flame arrestor options in the same valve for safety reasons. If a flip top were left open or damaged it would leave a direct vent path for exiting gasses to leave the battery without the protection of the flame arrestor.

  • How many cells can I fill at once?

ANSWER: 40 cells with a large battery manifold kit, 24 without

  • Can I use my new Millennium SPW system with my existing water supply?

ANSWER:The Millennium system can be used with any water supply that has been manufactured by Flow-Rite Controls including Millennium, Snap-Fill, and PowerStream water supplies. In addition the Millennium SPW system can be used with select competitor water supplies. The Millennium SPW system is NOT warranted for use with competitors deionizers or Water Master water supplies. 

  • What is the payback on a Millennium SPW system?

ANSWER: Most users realize a payback within one year - see your personalized cost justification

  • What is so special about your tubing?

Answer:  Our patented “Clampless tubing” installs in just a fraction to time compared to systems that require clamps while retaining it’s holding power up to 75 PSI.  Our tubing is made of Polypropylene which means it is the only tubing in the industry that is truly acid resistant.  Further more our tubing can be bent to the smallest radius without kinking or reducing water flow.  It also is made black in color to prevent any light from penetrating it, and promoting algae growth.
